Why Villanova University is Qualified to Teach Project Management
Last Updated March 17, 2020
When choosing an institution for project management education, one important signifier of quality is if the institution qualifies as a Registered Education Provider (REP) with the Project Management Institute (PMI).
A REP designation demonstrates that an institution is closely aligned with the goals and practices of PMI and, therefore, can be trusted to provide quality training for certification exams. REP institutions offer courses that qualify as the Professional Development Units (PDUs) PMI requires to keep certifications active. All PMP® preparation courses must be current and taught by faculty that have passed the PMP® exam. A REP institution provides an education that has been verified by PMI as meeting its high standards.
Villanova University is proud to be designated a REP and continues to provide quality education for project management professionals at all stages of their careers.
How Is REP Designation Achieved?
To earn designation as a REP, organizations must establish a mature project management training program and provide courses for at least one year. Courses must meet PMI standards for delivery and content, particularly in providing the knowledge to earn professional certification, and must qualify as PDUs for those seeking continuing education. The institution must also appropriately attribute resources in keeping with PMI’s intellectual property and advertising standards.
A REP application generally takes 30-40 businesses days and may include audits by professional reviewers at various stages to ensure continued compliance with PMI procedures and requirements. Once an application is approved, the institution is listed in PMI’s directory of approved registered education providers.
Professional Development Units (PDUs)
Project management education does not typically end with successful completion of the PMP® exam. In order to keep the certification active, project managers are expected to complete courses that qualify as PDUs at intermittent stages throughout their career. To meet this demand, all of Villanova’s non-credit certificate courses are approved for PDUs through PMI, allowing you to maintain your credential.
For an example of some of the courses offered, professionals interested in advanced training in a current and highly desired management approach may opt to take the Lean Six Sigma course. A more general option for career professionals may be the PM Capstone course, which emphasizes leadership strategies and development approaches for management professionals in large organizations.
Whatever your interest, professionals can rest assured that Villanova has continuing education courses to meet your needs.
