Required Courses
The Human Resource Management course features content based on the SHRM Body of Applied Skills and Knowledge (SHRM BASK) and is designed to help you prepare for the SHRM® Certified Professional (SHRM-CP®) or SHRM® Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP®) exam*. Additionally, students will receive 18 months of access (spanning three test windows) to the complete 2022 SHRM Learning System digital materials.
*For students preparing to sit for a SHRM® Exam, there are additional prerequisites you need to meet before you are qualified to take the exam (i.e. hours of HR-related experience). These prerequisites can be found on the Society for Human Resource Management® website.
This includes the following:
- Downloadable e-publications and online printable flashcards
- Online content including introductory competency connection scenarios
- 2,000+ knowledge and situational judgment questions
- Tips and tools with additional information as well as resources built into topic group pages
- An assessment, topic group practice tests and post-test for the SHRM-CP® and SHRM-SCP® level
The Mastering Organizational Effectiveness course builds on the HR Management course material by providing students with a more comprehensive understanding of organizational systems to help leverage the connection between employees and business goals. You’ll explore the concepts of organizational structure, organizational culture, organizational decision making, and individual and group dynamics.

Heather Gelting, M.S., SPHR, SHRM-SCP, has taught online and on campus for Villanova for over 10 years. She spent 12 years working for PepsiCo and YUM Brands before transitioning to a mid-sized professional services firm as VP of Human Resources. Heather operated a Human Resource Consulting business for five years and currently works as the Human Resource Director for The Hill School in Pottstown, PA. Heather serves as the program coordinator for the Human Resource courses offered in the College of Professional Studies.
