In the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ascm.org\/globalassets\/documents--files\/salary-survey\/2020-salary-report.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2020 Supply Chain Salary and Career Survey Report<\/a> from the Association for Supply Chain Management (ASCM), respondents were asked to identify their primary responsibility based on functions outlined in the ASCM <a href=\"http:\/\/www.apics.org\/apics-for-business\/frameworks\/scor\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Supply Chain Operations Reference (SCOR) model<\/a>. Supply Chain Management Job Growth<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf inventory is the lifeblood of supply chains, labor is the nervous system,\u201d writes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.logisticsmgmt.com\/article\/36th_annual_salary_survey_earning_more_but_enjoying_less\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Patrick Burnson for Logistics Management<\/a>. \u201cHeading into 2020, the overall labor market was positive, with low unemployment and an increase in median wage. Forces like the COVID-19 crisis, ongoing technological advances, responses to climate change, globalization and the shifts in global power and influence impacting trade and commerce all have \u201cimplications for the entire planet, as the world [faces] 2020 with the greatest upheaval in international relationships since WWII,\u201d asses researchers for <a href=\"http:\/\/mhlroadmap.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cTransformation Age: Shaping Your Future,\u201d<\/a> study, the third Roadmap Series publication by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mhi.org\/about\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">MHI<\/a>, the nation&#8217;s largest material handling, logistics and supply chain association.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The publication details how these \u201cmega trends and game-changing events\u201d within the global marketplace have the potential to ignite supply chain transformation and \u201ccreate a pathway for opportunity,\u201d particularly \u201cfor material handling and logistics as market trends generate increased demand for both domestic and international supply chain enhancements\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> &nbsp;Echoes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.logisticsmgmt.com\/article\/36th_annual_salary_survey_earning_more_but_enjoying_less\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Courtney Rogerson, senior principal analyst at Gartner<\/a>: \u201cWhat the pandemic has reminded us is how critical supply chain and logistics are at the foundational level. While the growth of digital business holds the promise of innovation, optimization, and new products and services, physical goods can\u2019t reach their destination without physical assets to get them there\u2026logistics has become a strategic differentiator.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Supply Chain Management Salaries<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As these new opportunities are created and the role of supply chain and logistics becomes ever more critical, the demand and competition for top talent to serve as strategic leaders is likely to increase, resulting in competitive salaries, especially in roles at the manager-and-higher levels.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In reflecting on the findings of Logistics Management\u2019s Annual Salary Survey for 2020, released in April 2020, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.logisticsmgmt.com\/article\/36th_annual_salary_survey_earning_more_but_enjoying_less\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Patrick Burnson writes<\/a> that \u201cresearchers were heartened to see that logistics salaries for early 2020 increased precipitously over 2019 figures.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 2020 Supply Chain Salary and Career Survey Report from ASCM showed a similar bright outlook for supply chain salaries. In fact, supply chain professionals holding at least a bachelor\u2019s degree reported a median salary of $78,750, <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ascm.org\/globalassets\/documents--files\/salary-survey\/2020-salary-report.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">according to ASCM\u2019s Survey Report<\/a>. That is a figure 24% higher than the national median salary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That earnings potential in supply chain increases as you ascend the professional ladder, with six-figure salaries not uncommon for those in a managerial or higher role.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"746\" width=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/bisk-preprod.go-vip.co\/msu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2020\/10\/SCM_Salary_Chart3.png?w=750\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8667\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bisk-preprod.go-vip.co\/msu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2020\/10\/SCM_Salary_Chart3.png 4692w, https:\/\/bisk-preprod.go-vip.co\/msu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2020\/10\/SCM_Salary_Chart3.png?resize=300,219 300w, https:\/\/bisk-preprod.go-vip.co\/msu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2020\/10\/SCM_Salary_Chart3.png?resize=768,560 768w, https:\/\/bisk-preprod.go-vip.co\/msu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2020\/10\/SCM_Salary_Chart3.png?resize=1024,746 1024w, https:\/\/bisk-preprod.go-vip.co\/msu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2020\/10\/SCM_Salary_Chart3.png?resize=1536,1120 1536w, https:\/\/bisk-preprod.go-vip.co\/msu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2020\/10\/SCM_Salary_Chart3.png?resize=2048,1493 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>While salaries for supply chain positions are already highly competitive, compensation above and beyond a base salary is the norm, with 91% of respondents to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ascm.org\/globalassets\/documents--files\/salary-survey\/2020-salary-report.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ASCM\u2019s Survey Report<\/a> saying they received some form of bonus, profit sharing, or other form of additional cash compensation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Supply Chain Management Career Advancement <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Within the supply chain, there are ample opportunities to move from entry level roles, to management, to director-level positions.
