Last Updated March 31, 2022
Michigan State University’s Broad College of Business stands at No. 12 overall and No. 7 among public universities in U.S. News & World Report’s 2022 Best Online Master’s in Business Programs ranking. The college’s Master of Science in Management, Strategy and Leadership (MSMSL) has landed among the top 25 since 2017 and this year, the ranking was expanded to include the college’s Master of Science in Healthcare Management and Master of Science in Marketing Research.
The programs also jumped nearly 10 spots in the Best Online Master’s in Business Programs for Veterans – the highest ranking MSU has ever achieved for this category. Data evaluated for this category came solely from the MSMSL program, which has graduated 149 veterans since its inception, along with 150 active-duty members.
“This high ranking is yet another reaffirmation of our devotion to providing a cutting-edge learning experience for our students,” says Glenn Hodges, MSMSL Program Director. “Our excellent faculty and staff work hard to understand the needs of our students and to deliver the best program possible.”
In addition, the college was well-represented in several areas of concentration based on the overall rankings.
- No. 1 for Human Resources Management
- No. 2 for Health Care Administration
- No. 2 for Leadership
- No. 3 for Organizational Behavior
- No. 5 for General Management
- No. 5 for International Business
- No. 5 for Marketing
According to U.S. News & World Report, the “highly ranked” programs within the Best Online Master’s in Business Programs “have strong traditional academic foundations based on the excellence of entering students, graduation rates and instructor credentials. They also excel at educating distance learners while offering robust career and financial support.”
The rankings assess master’s-level business degree programs that are not MBA programs in five weighted categories: engagement, student excellence, expert opinion, faculty credentials and training, and student services and technology.
Excelling by Differentiating
Unlike an MBA program, the MSMSL program is designed with a more holistic approach through the key components and principles of management, strategy, and leadership, equipping program graduates to develop their own influential style and gain the comprehensive skills needed to maximize their potential in managing effective teams, leading their organizations and advancing their careers. This distinction from an MBA is a key differentiator and attractor for many program participants.
“The reason I chose the MSMSL program as opposed to the MBA was because I was one of those people who felt like I already had deep business experience,” says Jeff Day, 2015 MSMSL graduate. “I really wanted to focus on the leadership and strategy aspect and work with people that were passionate about moving in the same direction.”
Online Convenience, Respected Program
The 100% online program brings together these faculty leaders with professional leaders and managers across multiple industries, providing invaluable peer networking and collaborative online group work, while creating a rigorous academic experience via an interactive online classroom, one-on-one instructor time and video-based lectures.
“I really appreciated the quality of the program and the quality of the professors,” says Angela Pulcini, 2019 MSMSL graduate. “I felt like I did not sacrifice my learning experience by being online. It was the same people teaching these classes to the [students] on campus, and with their background, they’re renowned in their field.”
It is this dedication to quality and instructional excellence in both on-campus and online program offerings that continue to make MSU’s Eli Broad College of Business a recognized and lauded leader in the education of business professionals.
